What this site measures.

A book about measuring things honestly should be honest about what it measures. This page is the whole of it, in plain language and on one screen.

Last updated 4 August 2026

This is a static site. There is no server of mine behind it, no database, no account to create and no mailing list to join. It is a set of files served by GitHub Pages.

One thing runs on top of that: Google Analytics, in its cookieless mode. I use it to answer a small set of questions — is anyone finding the site, which of the three free tools people actually open, and whether a post or a printed QR code brought them. That is the extent of my curiosity and the extent of the data.

What is collected

  • Which page you opened, and when
  • Which site or campaign link sent you here, if any
  • Rough location, no finer than country or region, derived from your IP address, which is truncated and never stored
  • Device type, browser and language
  • A few anonymous interactions: opening a face of the cube, using the Cube Score buttons, and clicking through to a bookshop

What is not

  • Anything you type into the tools. Cube Score runs entirely in your browser; your scores are never transmitted or stored
  • Cookies, or any identifier stored on your device
  • Your name, email address or any other personal detail
  • A profile of you, across visits or across sites
  • Anything sold, shared with advertisers, or used for advertising
Because the measurement is cookieless, I cannot tell a returning reader from a new one, and I have no way to identify any individual visitor. That is a deliberate trade: coarser numbers, in exchange for not following anyone around.

Cookies

This site sets none. Google Analytics is configured with storage disabled, so it writes no cookie and stores no identifier on your device. The single exception is if you deliberately opt out below — that choice is remembered in your browser's own local storage, and is never sent anywhere.

The toolkit request

The toolkit button opens your own email client with a message pre-written. Nothing is submitted through this site. If you send that email, I have your email address because you emailed me — I answer it and I keep it to myself. There is no list and no automated mail.

Things this site loads from elsewhere

Opt out, if you would rather not be counted

Press the button and this browser stops being measured on this site, permanently, from that moment. The preference lives in your browser; clearing your browser data clears it too.

Browser-level "Do Not Track" and content blockers work here too — nothing on this site tries to defeat them.

Questions, or a request to delete something

The data described here is anonymous and aggregated, so there is nothing tied to you for me to look up or delete. If you have a question about any of it, write to sanjeev.azad@gmail.com and I will answer it myself.
